Comparing Skincare and Laser Treatments for Rosacea and Hyperpigmentation

Skin redness is a common and often distressing dermatological concern, presenting as a visible symptom of various underlying conditions such as acne, inflammation, rosacea, and spider veins. These conditions affect the superficial and sometimes deeper layers of the skin, leading to chronic redness and, in severe cases, significant discomfort and psychological impact on patients.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of AV Laboratories Face Serum in reducing skin redness in trial participants, utilizing the VISIA Skin Analysis system for objective measurement. Overseen by a medical doctor, the clinical trial reveals a significant reduction in skin redness after two weeks of serum application. The findings suggest that AV Laboratories Face Serum is a viable treatment for managing skin redness.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF SKIN REDNESS
The redness observed in these conditions is primarily due to the dilation of blood vessels and increased blood flow in the affected areas. In conditions like rosacea, chronic inflammation leads to persistent vasodilation and the formation of visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) on the skin's surface. Acne-related redness, on the other hand, is typically localized around inflammatory lesions caused by the immune response to bacterial infection within hair follicles. Spider veins result from the weakening of blood vessel walls, leading to small, thread-like red veins that are visible just beneath the skin's surface.
Advanced imaging technologies like the VISIA® Skin Analysis system allow for a more precise and quantitative evaluation of skin redness. The VISIA system uses cross-polarized lighting and RBX (Red/Brown) technology to detect and analyze red areas in the skin, providing a comprehensive assessment of conditions such as acne, rosacea, and vascular lesions. This system captures the extent and intensity of redness, enabling objective measurement of treatment outcomes.
Recent studies have further elucidated the mechanisms underlying these conditions:
- Rosacea has been linked to a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and microbial factors leading to vascular and inflammatory responses [1].
- Acne redness is often associated with the inflammatory process triggered by Propionibacterium acnes (Cutibacterium acnes) and the subsequent immune response [2].
- Spider veins and telangiectasia result from structural and functional changes in the dermal vasculature, often exacerbated by aging, sun exposure, and hormonal influences [3]
MATERIALS & METHODS
An open-label clinical trial was conducted with participants aged 30-50 years. Participants applied AV Laboratories Face Serum twice daily for 28 days. Skin redness and hyperpigmentation were measured at baseline (Day 0) and after 28 days using the VISIA® Skin Analysis System.
RESULTS
After 28 days, participants exhibited significant reductions in both skin redness and hyperpigmentation for product and laser treatments. However, some results could not be accurately calculated due to inconsistencies in areas of the analysis mask. These discrepancies suggest the potential for AI-driven technologies to enhance accuracy in future assessments by improving consistency between measurements.
CONSLUSION
AV Laboratories Face Serum effectively reduces redness and hyperpigmentation, offering a non-invasive alternative to laser treatments. This is particularly beneficial for individuals who may be unsuitable for thermal-based treatments. VISIA® analysis confirms the serum's efficacy with consistent use, though future AI applications could further refine measurement accuracy.
